Rats! In the Ratskeller

Rats! in the Ratskeller is an introductory adventure and city guide for Cairn and other rules-light fantasy games. Set in an optimistic, post-post-apocalyptic, high fantasy world, the characters are new members of an adventurers' guild who are assigned the most basic of novice's quests: driving off a group of giant rats. That simple task will lead the characters straight into a tangled web of political intrigue, cunning foes, and dangerous alliances.

To support city play, Rats! comes with a fully-detailed guide to Gelbenhügel, its people, its mythic underworld, and its deepest, darkest, secrets.

Project Status

Rats! is currently in development and I am raising funds via itchfunding to pay for artwork. If you back this project today, you'll get periodic updates as development and play testing continue. Your pledge entitles you to receive the finished digital version and discounts on any printed versions.

Rats! is currently undergoing active development and play testing with three different groups, and I'm planning to use the city of Gelbenhügel as the setting for other additional adventures once this one is complete.

Therefore, my goal is to produce an Adventurer's City Guide, a Warden's City Guide, and the adventure itself. I may sell them independently once complete, but if you purchase them now, you'll be guaranteed to get all three.

About the Setting

The city of Gelbenhügel is loosely based on a 19th century version of Munich. Why Munich? Well, I wanted a beer-and-pretzels vibe for my ongoing home campaign, and you don't get much more beer and pretzels than the capital of Bavaria. Plus, German compound nouns are fun
